The weekend plan

Book a lane for Saturday afternoon, park on the square, and spend an hour learning to stick an axe in a wooden target with an axe-pert coaching every throw. Scores go on the board, so two people on a date and twelve people at a birthday get the same thing: a competition nobody has to organize.

Then walk a block. Downtown Mount Vernon has dinner, coffee, and the square within minutes of the door, and Happy Street Brü Werks brews inside Summit itself.

  • First-timers are the norm; coaching is included
  • Date night, birthdays, bachelor and bachelorette parties
  • Kids 10 and up throw with an adult present
  • Rain, snow, or heat, it is indoors

Knox County, by drive time

Summit sits in the middle of the county, so most of Knox County is within twenty minutes of a lane.

  • Gambier and Kenyon College: about 10 minutes
  • Fredericktown: about 15 minutes
  • Howard and Apple Valley: about 15 minutes
  • Centerburg: about 15 minutes
  • Danville: about 20 minutes
  • Utica: about 20 minutes

What to expect on a lane

Arrive ten minutes early with closed-toed shoes and a signed waiver (the booking contact gets the link). Your axe-pert walks you to the lane, runs the house rules, and shows everyone the throw. From there it is an hour of trick shots, tie-breakers, and the occasional bullseye, with the axe-pert on hand the whole time.

Book before it fills

Live availability. One reservation seats the whole party together.

Make a night of it

Make it a whole evening: throw at three or four, then dinner downtown, then back for a second hour if the lanes are open. Sixty minutes is $30 per person, ninety is $35, and two hours is $40.

Good to know

Is axe throwing good for first-timers?

Yes. Most people on Summit's lanes have never thrown before. An axe-pert teaches the throw and coaches through the session, and every axe is provided.

Can kids throw?

Throwers must be at least 10. Anyone under 18 throws with an adult present, and a parent or legal guardian signs the waiver. Kids 10–17 are $25 for an hour.

When is Summit open?

Friday 5–9 PM and Saturday 3–9 PM. Private rentals are available other days outside normal hours.

How much does it cost?

$30 per person for 60 minutes, $35 for 90, and $40 for two hours, with coaching and axes included. Military members, veterans, and first responders get 10% off.

Do you take walk-ins?

Yes, when a lane is open, but booking online is the only way to guarantee a start time on a weekend.

Where do we park?

On the street or in one of the public parking lots downtown.

Is there food?

Summit does not serve food. Bring your own or have takeout delivered from the locally owned restaurants downtown. Happy Street Brü Werks pours beer and hard seltzer on site for guests 21 and over.

Can we bring a big group?

Yes. One person books for the whole party and Summit seats you together, up to six per lane across eight lanes. Private rentals cover up to 48 guests.
